Nali igagu ngamazwi, imbongi uNkosi Gumede, edlulisa imizwa yakhe ngesimo senhlalo nobulungiswa eNingizimu Afrika, emva kwalokho ekubukeka sengathi izinhlelo zokuqaqa amagomagoma okuhlithwa komhlaba nobandlulo kuleli. Le Nkondlo wayihaya ePlayhouse Theatre eThekwini mhla ziyi-21 October 2017.

Impela ukuze uyiqonde kahle le nkondlo kudingeka ukuba ujule, namehlo engqondo uwavule kabukhali.

Above is a spoken word performance by Nkosi Gumede, challenging the route South Africa took in its aims of transitioning from colonialism and apartheid. The poem starts significantly, literally with the words:

“Peace is still doubtful,
Poverty is troubling him,
Conscience is feeding him with lies…”

The poet significantly refers to historical quotations and employs paraphrases in his narrative as he references the sources of his ideas. He utilizes strong African proverbs and contextualises his message within the country’s disproportionate state of existence. He is an activist.

Even for a pure Zulu speaker, understanding him can be a challenging task, if the mind to is not appropriately applied in pondering exactly what he is trying to say. Without making the call directly, he clearly demands of his audience to know more of history before seeking to understand the content of his presentation. What a significant work of art!
