Uma Kukhotheme Inkosi
Ngosiko laKwaZulu akushiwo ukuthi inkosi ishonile kuthiwa idunguzele. Esikhathini sakudala kwakuphuma isikhonzi sihambe simemezela ukuthi inkosi idunguzele. Abantu bakulesosigodi bayakhothama baqale ukuzila. Izinto eziningi njengokuthethwa kwamacala komkhulu kuyama, nokulima ngoba akuvumelekile ukuphathwa kwegeja kuze kudlule isikhathi lapho inkosi itshalwa noma ikwezwa khona (ukutshalwa noma ukukhwezwa kusho ukungcwatshwa). Abantu bayalinda kuze kumenyezelwe ukuthi sebengaqhubeka nemisebenzi yabo yasemasimini kodwa kufanele baqale komkhulu baphathe amakhuba noma amageja abo bawabeke ngasesibayeni. Kuyaye kuhlatshwe isilwane ukuze kugezwe amageja abantu. Uma esegeziwa bakhonjiswa indawo komkhulu abazoyihlakula ngalamageja abo uma sebeqedile babuyela emakhaya baqale ukusebenza.

Uma kushone umuntu nakhona kwakuzilwa ngendlela ethi mayifane neyenkosi umehluko ukuthi akuhlanjululwa amageja kodwa kuyaye kuthiwa kugezwa amapiki abesetshenziswa ngesikhathi kumbiwa ithuna. Esikhathini sakudala imizi yayigqagqelene kakhulu uma kushoniwe abantu babezwa ngesililo kuthi lowo ozwile uzobe esibikela omunye umakhelwane ukuthi uzwe kunesililo emzini wakwabani bahambe bayobheka. Uma sebezwile kuzobe sekucinywa imisakazo, kungathezwa, kungalinywa isigodi sihloniphe ngokungawubangi umsindo. Izihlobo ezikude kuthunyelwa isigijimi ukuzazisa ngosekuvelile emndenini.
Ngosuku lomngcwabo bonke abantu bahlanganyela nomndeni ukufihla lowo ongasekho. Esikhathini sakudala kwakungenziwa njengoba sekwenziwa ukuthi umndeni uphekele abantu abazowukhalisa, omakhelwane babefika bethwele ukudla okuvuthiwa okuzodliwa uma sekudlule umsebenzi ngoba phela umndeni kwakufanele uhloniphe uzile ungehli wenyuka wenza imisebenzi. Kuzothi ngemuva kwezinsuku noma ezintathu abantu besigodi sebengaqala ukulima nokutheza noma baqhubeke nemisebenzi yabo njengokujwayelekile. Izindawo azifani ezinye zisayilandela indlela yakudala yokuzila.
Most African people follow a certain procedure when there is death in the family or in the area. There is a difference between the death of the traditional leader or chief and an ordinary person, in such a way that even the words that are used to describe who is dead are different. When the traditional leader dies, a herdsman is sent to announce the bad news to the people of the village. People are prohibited to plough or collect wood until another message is passed that they may start to do that again. Even when an ordinary person dies there is no ploughing etc. The neighbours get the message through the wailing of women and they pass the message on. Both families of the dead people are required to show respect by refraining from work, and neighbours take charge of what needs to be done. It is very different nowadays how people mourn the death of their families. In the olden days, neighbours cooked and would bring food to the deceased family but now it’s the family that cooks for the people who come to support them.
After a certain period after the burial of a chief, people were called to the royal kraal with their hoes. They would place their hoes next to the kraal and an animal is slaughtered for the cleansing of the hoes. After they are cleansed they are shown a piece of land where they are required to hoe and this symbolises that they can continue with their fieldwork. This procedure is not done for an ordinary person but only a ritual to cleanse picks and shovels that people used to dig the grave, in most cases this is done after two weeks and people can collect their tools.
