A few week’s back we introduced the publication, Umlando, a project of the Durban Local History Museums. The first issue of Umlando was published in 2011, so we’re providing a bit of a retrospective of their back issues, but the content which looks at the museums and the work that they do is still relevant today, and makes for fascinating reading!
This second issue focuses on the role that museums play in conservation, education and research, and looks at everything from the process of digital archiving, to the story of John Marwick, the man in charge of the municipality’s Native Affairs Department, responsible for implementing the now infamous Durban System of African administration.
