The use of Cow-dung (Ubulongwe)

Rural communities used cow-dung, “ubulongwe” to perform two major functions. One was floor polishing and was also being used as an energy source where it took a form of a coal.

Polish the floor 
Slightly wet the floor with water;
Sweep to make the surface smooth;
Add some water to the cow-dung and mix or stir it up;
Apply a thin layer of the mixture to the floor;
Smooth the floor and let it become dry.

Creating energy source
Must have dry grass and cow-dung
Simply mix the two
Let it dry completely
Then it’s ready for use to light as a fire to cook on.

The creativity behind the process highlights the essence of sustainability. The indigenous wisdom of these societies is effective in shaping better and affordable life-style for all. This idea is cost free, which makes it much advantageous.

Lezindlela zazisiza kakhulu ekongiweni kwemali. Kwakukhombisa obukhulu ubuhlakani ngokuthi abantu babecabanga izindlela ezingenza impilo iqhubeke ngaphandle kokumosha imali.
