Born 8 March 1944, in Durban. Sipho Ngobese attended school at Umkhumbane Government School, Chesterville Secondary School, St. Francis College in Mariannhill, and UNISA (Bachelor of Theology). Ngobese is married with one daughter and two grandsons.
Ngobese’s newspaper career experience involves writing as a freelancer for UMAFRIKA, reporting on general news, sports and court. In 1973, Ngobese joined ILANGA Newspaper as the first Specialist Sports Writer. Ngobese is the Founder-Journalist of the NPSL (National Professional Soccer League). In 1980, he was appointed the Sports Editor of the ILANGA Newspaper. Ngobese resigned in 1983 to open a plumbing business at the KwaMashu KFC Units until he rejoined ILANGA Newspaper in 1992 as a General News Reporter.
When the newly-elected non-racial provincial government started operating in Ulundi and Pietermaritzburg legislatures in 1994, Ngobese was assigned to cover its seating. In 1995, he was relieved of his duty when he was appointed the Deputy News Editor then later the News Editor. In 1999, he was appointed the Managing Editor of ILANGA Newspaper.
Ngobese is a staunch Christian and a Pastor of his local church. He is also involved, as part of his ministry, in Gospel Music where he is the founder and leader of an Acappella Gospel Music Group, Umyalezo Wesikhathi, which has since produced four albums. In 2005 the group’s third album was nominated for the SAMA Awards under the Best Traditional Gospel Music Group category. He is currently the editor of a weekly Christian publication.
