Today marks the eighth annual Mandela Day – a day on which we pay tribute to the legacy of Nelson Mandela by helping others – if everyone contributes in a meaningful and positive way, no matter how small the contribution may seem, we will succeed in changing the world for the better. The idea is that on this day, Mandela’s birthday, everyone devotes 67 minutes of their day to doing good – a minute for every year of Mandela’s public service – but of course the more time, the better! This year Mandela Day coincides with the 21st International Aids Conference taking place in Durban, the world’s largest conference on any health or development issue. Given the rate of HIV infection in KwaZulu-Natal, and the timing of the conference, if you are going to participate in Mandela Day this year it seems like the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust (HACT) would be a good place to start! Whether your contribution is in the form of money, food donations, or simply promoting the work that the centre does, the effort you put in will be appreciated by the countless individuals and families that the Aids Centre supports.
Visit the HACT website for some ideas on how you can make a difference this Mandela Day.
