English Summary
Heavy rains affected the lives of people especially in rural areas because they depended in ploughing and livestock to survive. In the olden days there were heavy rains and people had certain ways to deal with it. This article looks at how people tried to stop heavy rains from ruining their houses, plants, killing their livestock etc. These practices differed as per area.
Some people smeared red soil on the cat and allowed it to go outside while it rains and after a few days the rain would stop. In other areas they made a big fire and put stones in a pot and boiled the stones. Children were sent to collect the stones because there is a belief that they are clean. People would boil these stones until the rain slows down. Other people have a belief that the last born child can also stop heavy rains by doing a certain dance and a song in the rain naked. In some areas when there were heavy rains they would choose a delegation of old people to go to the mountain and pray to God to stop the rain. They will go for days until the rain stops.
