I-Purtassi igama lesiTamil elisho uSepthemba, ekhalendeni lesiTamil inyanga iqala ngosuku lwe-15 futhi ukuzila kwePurtassi kuqala ngokwenyanga namaplanethi. Kwakuyisiko elenziwa eNingizimu yeNdiya futhi lusaqhutshwa kakhulu eThekwini. Ukuzila ukudla kunikezelwe kuMlondolozi obizwa ngokuthi uVishnu. Phakathi nale nyanga abantu baseTamil badla imifino kuphela, bengayidli inyama. Lesi senzo sihlanza ingqondo, umzimba nomphefumulo. Kuyasiza ekuqondiseni ingqondo futhi kususe ubuthi emzimbeni ngesikhathi esisodwa, ngakho-ke ngokubuka lokhu kuzila nokuhlonipha iNkosi uVishnu, ukuzila ukudla kusebenza njengokubonga eNkosini.
Inkolelo ngokuzila ukudla (fasta)

Isikhathi sokuzila sithatha inyanga, kodwa umthandazo kufanele wenziwe kuphela ngoMgqibelo. Amathempeli aseThekwini anemikhuleko emikhulu wePurtassi kodwa lemikhuleko ingenziwa nasekhaya.
