Durban Living Legend – Themba Robert ‘Tizzah’ Thwala

Themba Robert ‘Tizzah’ Thwala was born in 1949 in Germiston, grew up in Lamontville, Durban. Before he moved to Durban, he played for Kaizer Eleven which was the first squad that led to the formation of Kaizer Chiefs. At school Thwala was the captain of the Lamontville School team.

He later played for Golden Arrows for more than five years before joining Amazulu where, as a player, he was often called to take care of Amazulu during trouble times, and did well.

After his retirement, Thwala gave lectures and was actively involved in the talent development of young soccer players under the Soccer Legends Programme sponsored by the Office of the Premier. Thwala was a diabetic and the disease finally claimed his life. He passed away on 10th April 2011.
