Ms. B Siphamla of uMlazi B section explained about how this game is played.
Who play this game?
This game is played by boys and girls from the age of 4 upwards.
What is used to play this game?
No equipment is needed to play this game.
When is this game played?
This game is played during the day if it is not raining.
Where is this game played?
This game should be played in a stretched out area so that children can be able to follow each other.
How is this game played?
Playing this game depends on the number of children willing to play. If they are too many, two lines would be formed. All the children close their eyes and hold each other in the abdomen. Only the leader opens the eyes and will know where the group is going. The group asks, “Are we there?”, and the leader answers, “We are not there yet”.
They play along asking and answering in a particular rhythm. The leader sometimes leads the group to an ambush and the whole group would fall. This was very funny for the children. When they reach the ambush area the leader would also say “We are there”. When they fall all the children would laugh at themselves. Another child would lead the group and continue to take turns and lead the group to a better ambush than others.
Custom associated with this game.
There is no cultural orientation associated with this game. However, this game trains children to be quick thinkers.
