As the year draws to a close we take a look at what the Ulwazi fieldworkers have been up to in the last month of 2017. As with many cultures, music and dance play an integral role in the life of Zulu people, and as such was one of our areas of focus this month. Just as important, although for completely different reasons, and perhaps less so in contemporary, urban Zulu life, is the ability to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous snakes, and those birds which can be eaten as food, those which can’t, as well as birds used by sangomas and inyangas as part of their practice.
