Yesterday the King Shaka International Airport was alive with dancing and singing as a group of Zulu men and women welcomed a friend home! What a sight and sound Zulu dance is – with overseas visitors holding up their phones to photograph the spectacle, it really made you proud of South Africa and the incredible people who live here!
Zulu dancing is very much part of traditional Zulu culture, with different dances marking different life events, such as births, weddings, and funerals. The Zulu drum, either a clay pot or oil drum covered in a stretched skin, accompanies most of the dances, and adds to the drama of the affair!
