The Museum of African Design (MOAD) launches this month in the previously neglected Maboneng precinct in Gauteng. Challenging both the traditional perceptions of what a museum should be, as well as what most people think of when they visualise ‘African design’, MOAD acts as a “multi-disciplinary exhibition and performance space with a core objective of advancing problem solving ideas for Africa and beyond”.
Southern Guild, the first official exhibition to take place at MOAD, provides a platform for showcasing the very best of South African design. The exhibition opens this Thursday, with curator-guided tours taking place over the next two Saturdays (26 October and 2 November, 11am-12 noon and 2-3pm).
