Umama usixoxela ukuthi izingane ezingamawele zikhuliswa kanjani zisanda kuzalwa. Amawele ngokwesintu athathwa njengomuntu oyedwa ngoba yonke into yenzika kanye kanye njengokuthi uma kukhona eligulayo nelinye ngokunjalo ligcina seligula.
Ziyahluka izinkolelo zabantu uma kuza emasikweni enziwayo, kodwa uMama uNdlovu usitshele ukuthi yena kwakubalulekile ukuthi abonge izingane azitholile ngokwesintu. Wabangenisa esontweni ngendlela yokukholwa, lapho kwakulindeleke ukuthi athenge izinkukhu ezintathu. Iwele ngalinye liba nenkukhu yalo emhlophe kuthi eyodwa inkukhu kube ngeyokugeza umsamo kanye namakhandlela okubabonga. Lapha basuke becelelwa ukuthi bakhule kahle njengazo zonke izingane nempilo enhle. Isizathu esadala ukuthi akwenzele esontweni lokhu yingoba wayekude nasekhaya. Uma kwenzeka iwele lishona noma lenda lingcwatshewle egcekeni eduze nezindlu, kusuke kwenzelwa ukuthi leli elinye iwele likwazi ukugezela khona ethuneni lalowo oseshonile. Futhi kuthiwa uma selikhula khulile leli eliphilayo kuyehla nokuzwela ukuthi kukhona ongasekho ababezalwe naye. Uma kungukuthi ngesizathu esithile abakwazi ukuthi ligezele ngaphandle iwele amanzi elisuke ligeze ngawo athelwa phezu kwethuna. Kunezinkolelo zokuthi uma abantu beshadile bethola izingane ezingamawele aphila womabili oyedwa wabo uyadlula emhlabeni.
In this article we are looking at how people care for twin babies in a traditional way. Mama Ndlovu shared her story with us; she is a mother to a set of twin girls. Traditionally, twins are considered as good luck people they are treated differently from an early age. The first thing that they do is to thank God and ancestors for the gift where three live chickens are prepared for the ceremony, each twin have one chicken allocated to them and one is for cleansing the traditional ancestral place (umsamo) if it is done at home and if it is done in a traditional church as it was the case with Mama Ndlovu one chicken is for the candles that are lit during that prayer ceremony. They ask ancestors and God to look after the twins and give them good health.
Looking after the twins is another matter because you have to make sure that you don’t separate them in any way for instance if one is sick you have to administer treatment to both of them. When they are bathing they use the same water but you have to bath an older twin first before bathing the next one. Clothes are also not separated they should wear any clothing especially when they are still infants.
If it happens that one twin dies, they are buried just behind the house or next to the house because there is a belief that it should be close to the other twin and in some customs they bath the other twin on top of the grave if not they will pour the water from bathing on the grave. There are many other beliefs associated with twins.
