Ukupheka uphuthu

  • 2 x izinkomishi zamanzi (water)
  • 450g wempuphu (maize meal)
  • 1 x tisipuni kasawoti/swayi (salt)

Uphuthu (dry pap, as some call it) is one of the loved dishes in our country. It is easy to cook with only three ingredients; water, maize meal and salt:

  • Bring the water to boil in a pot then add salt and maize meal.
  • Reduce the heat to low and close your pot for a few minutes.
  • Mix everything with uphini (a wooden stick) or the back of a wooden spoon, and mix it well until its soft crumbs like.
  • Cook for 30 minutes while you stir every 7-10 minutes.
