Media release from the UKZN Press:
We would be delighted if you are able to join us for the launch of the newly released publication Tribing and Untribing the Archive; Identity and the Material Record in Southern KwaZulu-Natal in the Late Independent and Colonial Periods.
With 21 essays by 22 authors – both emerging young scholars and established academics – the volume tracks how the domain of the tribal and traditional was marked out and came to be sharply distinguished from modernity. Strategies for engaging with the materials differently are offered – from the interventions effected in contemporary artworks to the inserting of nameless, timeless objects of material culture into histories of individualised and politicised experience.
