Durban-born actor, Tiki Nxumalo, passed away in his home on Monday evening, after suffering what appears to be a fatal asthma attack. The 65 year old, who started his career as a musician, entered the spotlight when he appeared in an advertisement for KFC. He then shot to fame when he landed the role of Sompisi, on the popular soapie, Generations. Despite his success Tiki remained a modest man, interested in the welfare of others. While he had no formal training in music or acting, he used his passion for the arts to teach the children in Lamontville, his home town, helping to keep them off the streets during the turbulent and often violent 1980s.
Our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Tiki Nxumalo. South Africa has lost a wonderful man with the passing of this fine actor.
