In May last year we wrote about the launch of the book, isiShweshwe: A History of the Indigenisation of Blueprint in South Africa, which was published by UKZN Press. Well if that story got you excited (as well it should have – the tale of ishweshwe is such a fascinating one!), then make sure you pay a visit to Woza Moya on the 27th March where you may meet the author, Juliette Leeb-du Toit.
Juliette, an art historian by profession, will be giving a lecture on the history of ishweshwe, looking at how it came to South Africa, how it got its name, as well as a host of other wonderful facts about this iconic South African fabric. A selection of ishweshwe fabrics will be on display, and designer ishweshwe garments will be available for sale.
Tickets cost R30 and are for sale at the Woza Moya shops. Contact Woza Moya and Friends for further information.
