The Art of Storytelling

Drama+Competition+In keeping with this week’s theme of storytelling, SAFM’s Saturday evening broadcast is well worth a listen! With an hour dedicated to South African radio drama, the public broadcasters are doing their bit to keep the time-old tradition of storytelling alive. The radio plays, which are written and produced locally include new takes on age old African fables, and offer great entertainment! SAFM also hold an annual playwriting competition where the winner takes home R60 000, and is guaranteed a spot on the SAFM Saturday Play programme. Unfortunately entries for this year’s competition have already closed, but that doesn’t mean that budding playwrights can’t get their thinking caps on for next year!

Note: Because SAFM is an English broadcaster, plays must be written in English.
