Lindiwe Kuzwayo

Lindiwe Kuzwayo is a talented South African fashion designer whose creations have appeared on both local and international runways including in Marseilles and Cannes in Cannes. 

Lindiwe Kuzwayo Fashion Design Studio cc was established in 1986, having grown from using just one sewing machine to being involved in many prestigious events worldwide. Her sister company, Lindiwe Kuzwayo Academy of Fashion Design provides teaching facilities and inspiration to young people wishing to pursue fashion as a career. In recognition of this, Kuzwayo was given the Award for Excellence in the Field of Job Creation (Durban) in 2000 as many of her former students have themselves become successful entrepreneurs.

Lindiwe Kuzwayo Academy of Fashion Design

The College was established in 1986 as a private institution of Clothing Production and Design with the aim of reaching the latent talent our people who lacked places to study and explore designing as a career. Through coursework and practice, students acquired the skills needed for a career in fashion design.

Recognition

Lindiwe has been the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of her success:

  • The Lebone Women on the Move by SABC in 1997
  • TWIB (Technology for Women In Business)
  • Inkanyezi Award from the Desk for Abused Women in 2001
  • Impumelelo SA Top 300 Empowerment Companies for 2002
  • Daily News and Gcina Mhlophe Amavulandlela (Those Who Came First) Award.

Kuzwayo has exhibited in France, Egypt and Hungary, in New York and in Denmark. She has judged and designed costumes for the M-NET Face of Africa pageant in Zambia and Namibia and for the SAA Flight Attendant pageant at Kyalami, Johannesburg. She participated in the prestigious Culture to Couture event in Johannesburg, which was hosted by SABC 2 and also in the Africa Images Fashion Extravaganza in Zambia.

Her fashion design achievements extend to participation in the South African Fashion Week and Durban Fashion Week from its inception. In 2007, she was among a handful of top designers to be selected to contribute to the MTN Yellow Carpet range. In 2009, Kuzwayo was on the judging panel at the Vodacom Durban July and an invited designer for the Vodacom Durban July in 2010.
