English Summary
We all have different beliefs, some beliefs works for those people who follow and respect a certain way of life and for non-believers it is like those people are wasting their time. Like people who believe in what their dreams are saying and that it is the way their ancestors communicate with them. And there are people who also believes in some sicknesses and analyse it as a sign of something that will happen to them of in their families or in short a warning.

We are going to look at some of these sicknesses like running stomach that will affect more than one person in a family at a same time.

• This is a sign that there will be death in a family.
• To another person it can be a sign of confession if there is a family dispute and there is a traditional ceremony.
• Some women develop warts on their private parts (not STI) when they are going to menstruate and it heals itself after the cycle.
• Ear ache sometimes is associated with ancestors communicating with that person.

“Last year, I was going to visit my paternal grandmother in the rural area. I was very happy and looked forward to going there as it was long since I have visited them and I was going to take my son with me so that he can meet his great-grand mother. My son fell sick and he had ear ache, I took him to the clinic and to the doctor to no avail. He was sick for a while and was better when we were supposed to go. But then I fell sick after that, I also had ear ache. My ears had echo in such a way that when someone was speaking softly I didn’t hear them. I complained about my ears and used medicine but it didn’t help. Mama Neliswa Sibiya was the one who helped and she told me that when ears make funny noises it means my ancestors are saying something to me. And sometimes it is a warning from them not to do something.

She asked me if I have not said I was going to visit my grand-mother? She advised me that I must cancel my visit and see what is going happen. And she also told me that when I arrive home I must speak loud and say I was no longer going to visit my paternal grandmother, if my ear aches are associated with the visit I was going to be healed.

Makhosi Nelisiwe Sibiya shared with us about the ear ache that is associated with warning people of something. She says, a lot of people suffer from this and when they consult a clinic or health professionals they are not cured. Others only get cured when they have consulted with the traditional healer who connects them with their ancestors. She explained that she doesn’t tell people what their ancestors are saying she encourages them to focus on their dreams, that they will give them proper answers.

Some people feel sick when they have to take a long journey or suffer from ear ache. This can lead to the cancellation of that journey. People should look deep into these signs and understand their meaning as they can become important to them.

This reminded Nqobile of what happened to her once in relation to what Makhosi Sibiya was sharing with her:
“I did as I was told and did not even burn the incense. I woke up the next day cured. And when I asked her what happened she said when your ears makes echo noises or if sound like there is drum inside it is a warning that you should not go. There might be a problem where I was going. If I were to force matters it might have led to something bad happening or even death. Life went on as usual and I even forgot about the whole matter. Few months later, a dream came and I did not like the way it was. Even today when I speak about visiting them I get sick and I have taken a decision that I will not go there, this is all the things that our parents did and now they are falling on us.”
