Mrs. Nomusa Ngema of Ndundulu, KwaZulu describes the hawk as a very large bird which feeds on fowls’ chicks. If a hawk sees a chick in the yard it snatches it away and devours it. A hill is a raised area but smaller than a mountain.

This game is played by boys and girls from the age of 4 upwards.

This game is played in an open spot.
How is this game played?
Children form a group and they walk together with one leading and saying “the hawk is on the hill”, while the group responds by saying “on the hill”. This is said as they continue marching forward. As the game continues the leader would change and say “the hawk is on the mountain”. The group responds by saying “on the mountain”. When they change to mountain they stop moving and the one found moving is out of the game. The game continues until there is only one left who becomes the winner of the game.
