Happy Library Week!

Durban Library Week Programme

Libraries have always played an important role in the education of our communities and the annual National Library Week which will run from 16 to 22 March 2013 is their chance to showcase their available services and resources.

National Library Week will bring forth celebrations to honour and highlight the services, resources and culture that libraries bring to our communities. These celebrations will also allow networking between learners as well as library professionals within the eThekwini Municipality. Members of the public and learners are encouraged to attend their local libraries as activities will be planned that they could take part in.

The celebrations will kick-off on Monday, 18/03/13 at the Open Air School in Glenwood at 10h00. Staff from Musgrave library will spend the day with 24 physically challenged learners from Grades 3 and 4 to raise awareness amongst physically challenged learners by exposing them to the Library and including them in mainstream activities.

There will be another celebration at the Amanzimtoti Civic Hall on Tuesday, 19/03/13, at 09h00 and Grade 12 learners from previously disadvantaged schools will be invited to learn more about the importance of the library.

The fact that any person, young or old, rich or poor, employed or not, can walk into a library and find information (in both electronic and traditional formats) to educate and enrich themselves, for free, is one of the major pluses of libraries.
