Hamish Kyd was born in Kokstad in 1959, and moved to Durban at the tender age of three years. He has written, produced, directed and acted in several theatre works over the past 25 years, adding to these, his debut novel “Charlie” which was published in 2008.
Kyd has worked on theatre techniques for R&B groups, such as, Devante, Mandoza and Cheesekop.
In 1998 he produced the musical revue “The MJ Experience” and the original musical play “The Candyman” under the auspices of The Bojangles.
Kyd now works at The Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf. Some of his highlights at The Catalina Theatre include, “Bums and Roses” to mention but a few. Kyd has also scripted four radio dramas for Lotus FM: “Muti”, “Charlie”, “The Palace” and “Granny’s Home”. Kyd has scripted two episodes for the television sitcom “Family Bonds”. He continues to perform around the country. He is also known for 31 Million Reasons (2011) and Kings of Mulberry Street (2019).
