Don Mkhwanazi: 11 April 1953-1 July 2016

Prominent Durban businessman, and eThekwini Living Legends recipient (2011), Don Mkhwanazi, passed away on Friday the 1st July, 2016 at the age of 63. Mkhwanazi was a pioneer in the economic transformation of South Africa, repeatedly calling for the deracialisation of the ownership and control of the South African economy, and is said to have coined the term, ‘Black Economic Empowerment’.

Over the course of his impressive career, Mkhwanazi held the position of both President of the Black Management Forum, and Chairman of the Industrial Development Corporation sub-committee on BEE, South Africa’s largest development finance corporation.

Our deepest condolences to his friends and his family. In the words of President Jacob Zuma, South Africa has lost one of its major champions.
