When Ulwazi first began nearly ten years ago there was very little local African content online. So, Ulwazi set out to document the stories, histories and culture of local people within the eThekwini Municipality. They were recorded by fieldworkers from local communities, who were trained to interview, take photos and write articles for the Ulwazi Programme. We’ve now amassed a wonderful collection of anecdotes, personal histories, and local knowledge on everything from medicinal plants to the rituals involved in a traditional Zulu wedding, but we know there’s always something new to learn about the residents of the eThekwini Municipality!
New-look Ulwazi Programme
The new-look Ulwazi Programme facilitates contributions from the general public and, in the process, also offers a short course in basic digital content management. So, please add your story, the history of your family or area, a tasty recipe, a family or clan custom! If you’re interested in contributing to the Ulwazi Programme, just click on the ‘Contribute to Ulwazi’ button on the right hand side of the home page, and follow the simple instructions.
We can’t wait to see what you have to contribute!
