Last month eNanda Online wrote about the Take a Step Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to educate and motivate children from eNanda with the hope of breaking the cycle of poverty that exists in the township. The group meets every Friday between 16h00 and 18h00 and offers advice to children – everything from how to properly groom themselves in order to improve their self-esteem, to discussions on moral regeneration. To date the list of volunteers includes a teacher, a motivational speaker, and a police officer, Sazi Mntungwa, who founded the organisation. In addition to the talks, the foundation also offers a cooked meal to the children who attend the meeting, and in this way acts as a feeding scheme, looking after around 70 children. While the programme is still in its infancy, Mntungwa hopes to one day establish a full-time kitchen, computer and library facilities with wifi access, a homework centre, as well as a sports programme.
The NPO is in the process of being registered and currently relies on word of mouth for sponsorship, and donations for food and clothing. Please contact Sazi Mntungwa should you be able to offer the Take a Step Foundation any assistance:
