National reading campaign, Nal’ibali, has launched its annual multilingual storytelling talent search, Story Bosso! Nal’ibali believes that a well-established culture of reading can be a real game-changer for education in South Africa, with literacy skills being a strong predictor of future academic success in all subjects.
With this in mind, Story Bosso is aimed at reawakening a love of storytelling and reading, with the theme of this year’s campaign being South African heroes! Stories must be submitted via an audio or video clip, and for children who don’t have the facilities to upload their stories themselves, Nal’ibali offer a list of venues where they will record children’s stories on their behalf. Most importantly the competition, which offers a R5000 cash prize, and the opportunity to see your story printed as a book, allows submissions in all eleven official languages. Go team Nal’ibali!
