Durban Living Legend – Mark Steven Tovey

Durban Living Legend-Mark Steven ToveySoccer star Mark Tovey was born in Pretoria on 7 May 1955. He attended Northlands Primary and Northlands Secondary in Durban North. His passion for soccer began at an early age when he started playing junior football for Durban City, representing them at under 10, 12 and 14 levels. In 1971, he turned professional by signing for Durban United at the age of 16. In 1973, he signed for Durban City, playing for six seasons for the club.
In 1980, he moved to Dynamos, spending two seasons with the club. He won the NPSL league championship with the Durban City in 1982 and 1983. Once he joined Bush Bucks fans named him “Vula Vala”. He won the league championship (1985) and the JPS Cup (1987) with them. In 1988 he joined Kaizer Chiefs and won 6 trophies with them. Chiefs’ fans called him “Mr Experience.” He currently works for Nike Golf in Johannesburg.
