Durban Living Legend-Anant SinghIllustrious film producer Ananth Singh was born in Durban in 1956. He produced many of the greatest anti-apartheid films, like “Place of Weeping”; “Sarafina” and “Cry, the Beloved Country”. He acquired film rights to “Cry the Beloved Country” in 1991 but delayed production until South Africa obtained democracy. Most recently, he was granted the film rights to Nelson Mandela’s autobiography “Long Walk To Freedom”. Anant Singh has also produced many important documentaries, such as Countdown to Freedom and Prisoners of Hope. Countdown to Freedom dealt with the first democratic elections in South Africa. Prisoners of Hope tells the story of the reunion of 1 250 former political prisoners on Robben Island.
