KwaZulu–Natal Heritage Collection

The Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) is currently hosting an exhibition of the most beautiful and impressive collection of artefacts from KwaZulu-Natal, including a wonderful assortment of wood and clay antique vessels. The exhibition draws on JAG’s Maritz Collection of artefacts from various parts of KZN. Included, as a minor part of the exhibition, is a computer terminal linked to the Five Hundred Year Archive Project (FHYA) which provides digital access to the Maritz artefacts and related materials in other collections.

Call and Response: First engagements with a KwaZulu–Natal Heritage Collection opened last Sunday, and is one of two summer exhibitions hosted by the gallery, so there is still plenty of time to experience what JAG calls “one of the finest traditional Southern African art collections in the world”.
