Durban Living Legend – Leleti Khumalo

Leleti Khumalo better known as ‘Sarafina’ was born in KwaMashu, Durban in 1970. At the age of 15 she auditioned for a musical piece, which was to become the international blockbuster “Sarafina.” She later starred in the movie “Sarafina” directed by Mbongeni Ngema as the lead character. In 1993 she co-starred in the international hit musical “Magic at 4 AM” which was dedicated to the legendary Muhammed Ali. She has starred in many international movies such as “Cry, the Beloved Country, “Hotel Rwanda” and “Yesterday.” She has also played the character of Busi Dlomo in the popular local television series, “Generations.”
