Durban Living Legend – Hamish Kyd

Born in Kokstad in 1959, Hamish Kyd moved with his parents to Durban at the tender age of three. In 1998 he produced the musical revue “The MJ Experience” and the original musical play “The Candyman” under the auspices of The Bojangles. He is also remembered for his production of “Bums and Roses” at the Catalina Theatre. He has written, produced, and directed several theatre works over the past 25 years.

Hamish has worked on theatre techniques for R&B groups such as Devante, Mandoza and Chiskop. He has also scripted four radio dramas for Lotus FM: “Muti,” “Charlie,” “The Palace” and “Granny’s Home” and two episodes for the television sitcom “Family Bonds.” His debut novel Charlie was published in 2008. Currently he works at the Catalina Theatre on Wilson’s Wharf.
