Born in 1928, in Ashburton, he joined Umsakazo wesiZulu (as it was then known) in 1960. He was the first Zulu radio commentator to broadcast events such as the July Handicap, Gold Cup, Metropolitan Boxing, Comrades Marathon and the Rapport Cycle Tour. He used the station’s car to broadcast, as there were insufficient resources to acquire a proper studio. Though retired since 1991, he is still called upon by Ukhozi FM to share his expertise because of his deep insight and vast knowledge in sports.
