Durban Living Legend-Dudley ‘Bra Dudley’ Dlamini
Talented musician Dudley Dlamini was born in Umzinto, in the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal in 1931 but grew up in Glebelands, Durban. He started playing the trumpet at the age of nineteen for the Mezzow Swing Band which was based at Umlazi. In 1956, he joined the Modern Masters Band, playing mostly at the hostels.
After five years with the Modern Masters he joined Jerry’s Sextet in 1961. Between 1972 and 1976, ‘Bra Dudley’ Dlamini played for KwaMuhle Brass Band. He recorded an album with the Jerry Junior Indian Band and with El Remos in Johannesburg. In 1977, Dlamini returned to Durban, where he joined Jerry Kunene’s group called Jerry and his Men.
